Giving a Dog a Name: What's in a Dog's Name?

Just recently, we've obtained both the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Therapy Dog International (TDI).

With these in mind, one of the things that I wanted to do was give Finn a "dog" name rather than a "human" name. Being a first time dog owner, I really still don't know what goes in a dog's name and how to name a dog. With Finn approaching 16 months, the name is still a big question mark.

So what's in a dog's name? Some dogs are identified after the kennel name along with the litter name. Kennel name? Finn did not come from a kennel but from a humble family near London, Ohio. So if I were to go with something like that, it may work to have the name of the dam and sire. But what if I would rather have a different name?

So before we add more stuff behind Finn's name, I am determined to give him a proper dog name. I'll be doing my research and hope to find the proper fit. This process may be a lot more fun with your help.
